Angel Baikakedi

Angel is a first year Master’s student in the International Economic Policy program at George Washington University, with a Bachelor’s in Economics from Whitman College. Born and raised in Botswana, she aspires to become a policy analyst with the goal of promoting sustainable development and inclusive economic policies, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and the Global South as whole. Her research interests include development, gender and urban economics, with a focus on economic mobility and equitable policy solutions. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching shows, spending time with friends and working on her YouTube channel.

I do this work because… “I come from a country that is experiencing the impacts of the climate crisis now more than ever, with extended periods of drought and extreme heat conditions. These changes threaten water security, disrupt agriculture, and exacerbate economic inequality; disproportionately affecting low-income communities that rely on climate-sensitive livelihoods.”

For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.
